The Not So Impartial Police

This week Greater Manchester Police tweeted that they were swearing in new recruits, and shared the oath that the offers were swearing allegiance to.

I, … of … do solemnly and sincerely declare and affirm that I will well and truly serve the Queen in the office of constable, with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality, upholding fundamental human rights and according equal respect to all people; and that I will, to the best of my power, cause the peace to be kept and preserved and prevent all offences against people and property; and that while I continue to hold the said office I will to the best of my skill and knowledge discharge all the duties thereof faithfully according to law

Two days later they tweet a photo of the homosexual rainbow flag being raised a their HQ. Which their Chief retweeted.

It’s Manchester Gay Pride this weekend. I don’t agree with these events. I disagree even more with uniformed services taking part.

Lets look at that oath again… impartial

impartial

/ɪmˈpɑːʃəl/

adjective

1. not prejudiced towards or against any particular side or party; fair; unbiased

As a public service are not operating with impartiality, that they are misusing powers and they are acting in a manner that does discredit confidence in them with the public by them not being impartial.
Police officers and other publicly funded services and agencies should not be allowed to take part in the Gay Pride parade in uniform. Gay Pride is a highly politicised event with the demand for a change in laws and seeks to change peoples opinions. The Police are meant to be are a politically neutral organisation. Taking part in Gay Pride is inappropriate and disregards the very oath they have been sworn in on.

I firmly believe that everybody should be able to be ‘themselves’, in their own space. I believe that while being ‘themselves’ they should not encroach into other people’s space. Nor should they put their private life in the public to domain, and then complain when people make comment on it. Which happens, and which is allowed.

I would ban public funded services from participating in Gay Pride Marches, if they want to participate do so in a civilian capacity. They are not supposed to visibly supposed to express support for ‘whatever lifestyle’. Services paid for by all members of the public should not be biased to the support and take part in marches and or events of one very small sector of society in their strive to silence differing views and opinions of them, what they do or believe in.

Matt

Hi I’m Matt, I tweet far too much, take far too many photos, I speak as I find, which means you properly wont like me, which doesn't bother me in the slightest.
